Missouri Professional Development System

What is the Missouri Professional Development System?

The Missouri Professional Development (MOPD) system includes a workforce registry, a place to find trainings, and a learning management system to allow professionals to take online trainings. The MOPD system will support all childhood professionals, beginning with child care providers, afterschool professionals, and trainers. After the initial launch, other users will be added, such as home visitors and early interventionists.

Why does Missouri need a new system?

You spoke and we listened! The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) stakeholders asked for an improved system. Childhood professionals asked for updated trainings to resolve technical issues and clock hours to be issued more quickly. This system will replace the OPEN Initiative Toolbox, the Missouri Workshop Calendar, and online trainings hosted by DESE.

Registry

  • Allows users to track credentials, requirements, qualifications, employer records, trainings, and career progression
  • Offers users a self-assessment tool to aid in professional development planning

Training

  • Offers search options for professionals to find local, regional, and online quality training opportunities
  • Allows communication methods between trainers and registered participants
  • Contains an application process for trainers to apply for course approval, track, and issue attendance

Learning Management System

  • Hosts online and on demand trainings
  • Grants clock hour credit immediately upon completion of DESE training

Why use a professional development system?

In the short term, a professional development system is a way to track compliance with professional development requirements. In the long term, a professional development system can increase the number of high-quality care and education programs. By developing and tracking individual professional achievements, the system can provide important data about the childhood workforce as a whole.

How will the data collected be used?

Data collected from the system will be used with a goal to ensure compliance with child care requirements and evaluate the workforce. Training data can help the state identify gaps in training needs and topics.

What happens to my records?

Data will be moved from OPEN Initiative’s Toolbox and Missouri Workshop Calendar into the new MOPD system. This includes training records, educational records, MOPD ID numbers, employment records, training applications, etc. into the new system.
